John is a native of Moore County in central North Carolina. He graduated from North Moore High School and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology, Philosophy and Religion from Pfeiffer College in Misenheimer, North Carolina.
After studying at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri, John received his Master of Divinity Degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, North Carolina. John has completed Doctoral work at Trinity Divinity School, Deerfield, Illinois.
John married Debbie Wooten in 1993; he has two sons, Spencer and Wesley.
In addition to ministry, John enjoys reading, walking and GOLF.
Prior to coming to Boonville, John served as Pastor and Intentional Interim Minister in North Carolina, South Carolina and Maryland.
